For most migrant farmworkers in North Carolina, adequate health care seems unattainable. Migrant women, in particular, are challenged with raising children under harsh living conditions. To help improve their lives, researchers from the School of Public Health are working to make health care more accessible and effective.

Lorna Harris, assistant professor in the UNC School of Nursing, is studying consumers’ thoughts about possible sanctions for substance abuse. In a recent study, she asked consumers’ opinions about substance abuse among health care providers, job performance, and drug testing. She hopes her findings can be used to develop employee drug abuse policies.
