The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University opened only ten years ago in 2005, but it has become a world-class museum. Exhibits like the 2007 show, \"Between Past and Future: New Photography and Video from China\" and the 2008 show \"El Greco to Velazquez: Art During the reign of Philip III\" gained national attention and awards, bringing acclaim to the academic museum.

An incident during the NC Pride Parade in September 2015 brought to light the discrimination of black people who identify as LGBTQ. Laila Nur claims that a Pride affiliate assaulted her while she was speaking during the parade. Nur and others marched in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, but the forcible silencing of Nur reveals fractures in the LGBTQ community.

From October 17, 2015 through January 17, 2016, the North Carolina Museum of Art exhibited the work of the twentieth century Dutch artist, M.C. Escher. The exhibit featured over 130 pieces, including woodcuts, lithographs, drawings, and more, made between the 1920s and the 1960s. The exhibit was the most comprehensive collection of Escher’s work ever displayed in the United States.

As the Triangle’s art scene is receiving new national attention, money, organizations, and venues, some are wondering who might be left behind. Detailed are the efforts to broaden access to arts education and participation for people with disabilities. The efforts of local art museums, educators, Arts Access, and the Idea Summit are described. Accommodations for the visually impaired, hearing impaired, physically impaired, and those with Alzheimer’s are highlighted.

Howe writes about the life and work of Aaron Belz, a poet whose works have been praised by the likes of John Ashbery and poetry critic Marjorie Perloff. He is called a public misanthrope and a seeker of privacy. He lives in a small Hillsborough apartment and operates an even smaller bike shop and teaches creative writing at Durham Tech. Along the way he earned an MA in creative writing at NYU and a PhD in English from St. Louis University.

Horse & Buggy Press in Durham combines the oldest and latest printing techniques in unique books. Founder Dave Wofford started the press in 1996 and creates books that are entirely hand-printed, entirely machine-printed or a hybrid of the two. He collaborates closely with authors to create small runs of books that are self-published and allow for more artistic freedom in the printed book through images, the paper, the type, and the layout.

Ross White is a nationally recognized poet, editor of Bull City Press, and a teacher at the North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics. White describes himself as a cheerleader for other poets and his press publishes chapbooks and the magazine Inch. White is also the founder of two national poetry projects, The Grind and the Frost Place Chapbook Competition. White’s first book of poetry was recently published called How We Came Upon the Colony.
