Enfield, population about 1,000 in the early twentieth century, had two larger than life distinctions: early adopter among North Carolina’s towns of crop rotation; world’s top producer of raw peanuts. Even if it no longer can offer the latter boast, the author proclaims Enfield can still tout its peanuts as the tastiest in the world in events like its Cotton and Peanut Festival.

The oldest certified White Ash tree is one of many aspects about the town that’s also the oldest town in Halifax County. Making the town a must-see for lovers of North Caroliniana include historic homes such as Branch Grove, Gray Hall, Shell Castle, Glen Burnie, and Conoconnara Hall. Articles of North Caroliniana noted were the town’s involvement with the American Revolution through the Halifax Resolves and Enfield Riots.

This is the sixth year the paddle has been hosted and, new this year, will include a section of river previously not included. Registration is required and includes lunch, a free gift, and live entertainment.
