The New Hanover Community Endowment was created with $1.25 million in proceeds from the county's sale of the 800 bed New Hanover Regional Medical Center to Novant Health in 2021. It one of the largest community-building nonprofits in North Carolina history. Focus of the endowment is social and health equity, community development and safety.

His business success since that time has been phenomenal. In 2005, he accepted the call to lead then struggling High Point University from a campus of 1,400 to today's enrollment of nearly 6,000.
