This festival was launched in Wilson in November 2004. Having an intense mechanical curiosity since youth, Vollis Simpson was also fascinated with movement and enjoyed a keen ability for making spectacular moving objects from simple and many times discarded materials. His whirligigs attracted the attention of Wilson city leaders in 2017, who obtained and restored with the aid of a grant many of his fine artworks housed on his farm. the result of this endeavor became the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park in Wilson.

Coastal North Carolina has the world's largest Black Bear population. the event takes place annually on the first Saturday in June and is located in Plymouth, the county seat of Washington County. the mission of the event is to educate the public concerning this valuable natural resource. Tom Harrison is festival founder and director. Other highlights of the 2024 festival include cruises on the Roanoke river aboard the "Albemarle Queen", North Carolina's only paddle wheel boat.

Located in downtown Williamston, the festival is currently in its 29th year and occurs the last week of September. It was officially renamed in 2024 after being the Carolina Country Stampede to reflect a greater diversity of North Carolina's music culture. The event is organized by the nonprofit Williamston Downtown Inc.

The event was first originated in Rocky Mount's Down East Festival in 2008. For 2025, the Eastern Carolina BBO Throw Down has been selected by the Mid-Atlantic Barbecue Association as a State Cup Contest. The Down East Festival itself started in 1983 to increase awareness of downtown revitalization.

Sponsored by the city of New Bern, MumFest is produced by Swiss Bear Inc. Occurring annually in October, the festival began as part of a downtown revitalization effort. It is enjoyed by more than 90,000 festival goers each fall.

The community of Ocean City originated in 1949, when an interracial corporation, Ocean City Developers purchased beach front property on the Atlantic Ocean that became one of the first African American beach communities in North Carolina. The festival celebrates the history of this community.
