Roanoke River Partners currently has sixteen camping sites located in six counties along and close to the Roanoke River. People from all over the United States and foreign countries visit and use these facilities. Economic impact to the region is said to be half a million dollars a year. Local artist, Jaquelin Perry helped spearhead the creation of Colerain's historic district, which was approved and listed in April 2020. The oldest structure in the district is the Peyton T. Henry house dating to 1850.

The property containing Bertie Beach was recently purchased by Bertie County for $1 million with the aid of state and federal grants. The county envisions the beach not only for local access but with the possibility of camping trails and perhaps a visitor's center. The beach is part of Bertie's "Tall Glass of Water" project administrated by Robin Payne.

The Perry-Wynn Fish Company was established in 1952 by L.D. Perry and Leo Wynns. At one time, the company shipped millions of harvested herring from Bertie County waters, having more than 200 seasonal workers during its heyday.

As a catering business, Sunset Stables previously operated the Filling Station Restaurant, which was closed in 2012, but is on schedueled to re-open, Sunday lunch only, on April 10, 2022.

The San Souci Ferry has been a presence in Bertie County for more than eighty years. The cable driven ferry is one of only three such ferries still running in North Carolina. North Carolina Department of Transportation budget cuts in 2000 nearly ended the ferry's operation.
