The Elizabeth City High School Band of Elizabeth City, North Carolina is considered one of the best high school bands in the country. Steadily progressing to a large and constant group, the band has not only been heard in New York, Washington D.C., and the Aviation Anniversary at Kills Devil Hills, but also credited with alleviating juvenile delinquency in the area.

One of the most debated issues in Congress has been increasing postal rates. In an effort to improve service while decreasing cost and deficits of the Post Office, adequate rates are required. However, the basic issue raised over post rate increases was who would bear the cost of operation and increases in rates. Many argue that as a public service, the Post Office Department should not be a business, and operating costs should come from other sources.

A new Gulf plant of Pomona Terra Cotta Company is opening near Sanford, North Carolina. The plant is designed to produce drain tile and clay sewer pipe for the company, which was established as one of Greensboro's pioneering industry in 1886.
