Latino Leadership in Eastern North Carolina: An Oral History Archive
This collection showcases oral history interviews with members of the Latino community of Eastern North Carolina who occupy positions ranging from formally recognized leadership to informal influence in the lives of Latino youth. Participants come from a variety of national and occupational backgrounds, including professional, entrepreneurial, technical, and working class trades. These interviews examine the many forms that Latino leadership assumes in Eastern North Carolina and the many challenges facing this new and rapidly growing population. These oral histories were collected by Drs. Ricardo Contreras (Anthropology) and David Griffith (Anthropology and Coastal Science and Policy) with funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council. This archive is supported online through Joyner Library Digital Collections and the East Carolina Manuscript Collection and features digital voice recordings, transcriptions, English summaries of the oral histories, and other materials related to the Latino presence in the state. It is hoped that, in time, the archive will serve as a reservoir for Latino oral historical materials throughout North Carolina and the U.S. Southeast.
