MINUTES OF OCTOBER STAFF MEETING
Psychology Department
October 2, 1967

The Psychology Department held its October meeting in EP 104 at 4 o'clock,
October 2, 1967.

PRESENT: Prewett, Grossnickle, Long, Cole, Rogers, Kinzie, Martoccia, Higgins,
Steinberg, Dixon, Burkheimer, Mitchell, Marshall, McLain, Williams,
Stapleton.

Mr. Dixon, Chairman of the Committee for Revision of Service Courses, made a
report for the Committee. The following action was taken:

1. That all advisers strongly dissuade advisees from service courses
unless advisee can show reason or need for the course-*viz.e, 205
for school psychologists.

2, That the Department petition the Curriculum Committee to upgrade
Psychology 205 to Psychology 305 and carry the prerequisite of
either Psychology 201 OR Psychology 240.

3. That more careful checks be made by the advisers and class instructors
on classification of students in courses, and that student under re-
quired classification be required to present written directive from
their adviser.

4; That the number of students in each section be limited to forty (40).

That teacher-student contact hours be considered in determining teaching
load.

5; That two 2-hour classes, meeting Tuesday and Thursday, be considered
for Psychology 201 and 240,

Dr. Grossnickle asked anyone having a nominee for a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship
(or any other fellowship) to submit their name to him. Two psychology majors-~
Theodore We Whitley and Helen Cox Cleveland have been nominated.

Mr. Burkheimer reported for the Social Committee--the Departmental cookout
will be October 6, 63:30 pe me at Elm St. Park.

Dr. Grossnickle announced that the Psi Chi meeting would be Thursday, October 5
at 7:30 pe. m.e--Dr. Blanche Watrous will be the speaker. All professors were
asked to announce this in their classes.

Mr. Dixon was asked to prepare a syllabus for Psychology 305.6

Dr. Martoccia made the following report for the Comprehensive Committee:

John Matson, a graduate student who has changed from the general-
theoretical program to clinical, has requested that he be allowed
to take the Comprehensive Examination in two parts--the core exam-
ination now and the examination on the clinical part at a later
date. The request was denied.

Mrs. Stapleton announced she was working on the Departmental manual but to date
had nothing concrete to present.

Miss McLain, Chairman of the Curriculum Committee, made a partial report and
then it was decided that another meeting be called to consider the report in
detail.

It was announced by Miss McLain that all catalog changes are due in by
November l,.

Dr. Prewett asked that the information sheet which he handed out be returned
to the Departmental office as soon as possible.

The meeting adjourned at 5:20.
