ANNUAL REPORT OF PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Reporting Period: June 1, 1975 to May 31, 1976.

I. Narrative

Il.

The Department of Psychology now has 24 faculty members, and continues to

handle over 11,000 enrollments per year. In spite of the student demands on

the faculty and the unavoidable lack of space and equipment, a fair amount of
research has been conducted within the Department. A number of our faculty

have had papers accepted at professional meetings, and articles published in
professional journals. Dr. Charles Cliett has completed the establishment of

a psychophysiological laboratory in the Department which has been and will con-
tinue to be used by both faculty and students as a teaching aid and for research
purposes. This year the proposal for a sixth year program in school psychology
has been approved on campus and is awaiting final approval by the Board of
Trustees of the Greater University. Final approval of this program will enable
our school psychology graduates to be certified as Level II school psychologists.
Several students were honored by Phi Beta Kappa affiliate at ECU. One of our
undergraduate students (Ms. Deborah Baker) received a national award from the
United States Air Force and is the first female student ever to be selected as
a Corps Commander of an AFROTC unit. Another of our students (Larry Lundy)
was nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship. Although we do not have a final count
at this time, we shall probably have at least 12-15 of our students who will
be going on to graduate level programs in psychology. Four students graduated
Magna Cum Laude, and six Cum Laude.

Two new faculty members were employed this year, two received tenure and five
were promoted.

Comments on projections for the future:

Two new faculty members are to be added this Fall, and this will help to
take care of some of the demand for certain courses, which we have not
been able completely to satisfy in the past. We are progressing with our
plans to provide more marketable skills for psychology majors, and we are
receiving significant help in this area from Mr. Doug Kreuger in the area
of practicum experience for under-graduates.
