Wonderful Work.
Have you been to the exhibition given
by the Lieby Glass Workers ia Ger-
mania Hall? If not you are missing
something that is well worth going to
see. Their work is truly marvellous.
One can hardly imagine the many dif"
ferent uses a piece of glass can be pvt
to by these people. They can make
most anything and in such a short time
as to astonish you. A leading feature
of the exhibtions 13 spinning thread from
a glass rod around a large wheel at the
rate of 500 yards a minute. They also
make birds with curled plumage and
have a large doll wearing a glass dress,
Every visitor gets a present. Tomor-
row will be their last day here.

The oWires Got Mixed,
We hear of a good joke on a certain
young lady in town, This particular
lady is given much to the use of the tel-
ephoae, and frequent conversations over
the wires has made the habit of saying
~o~voodbye when the talk is finished as
much a fixture as the conventional
ohello at the beginning. Nothing
amiss in this, but a night or two 470
she was saying her prayers as usta. bv- |
fore reiiring, and at the close of her!
devotion the telephone habit asserted
ltself and she ended with ogooddye

Narrow Escape,
Mr. R. L. Nichols, of Beaver Daw
his mother had a tew days ago from
serious if not fatal injury. Mrs. Nich-
ols weni to the well to draw a bucket
of water. The bucket was fastened to
an old fashioned sweep, and iu lowering
it the sweep broke, one end narrowly
missing her head. Fortunately the
talling sweep just grazed her left shoul"
der and arm and her injury was only
slight. Had the sweep struck her on
the head no coubt it would have killed
her.

Logan CarlisleTs Joke.
Lcgan Carlisle, chief clerk of the;
treasury department, and son ~of Secre_
tary Carlisle, is famed among his inti-
mate friends for bis wit.
Karly in his administration Secretary
Carlisle issued an order that no two
members of afumily shou!d be employed
in the treasury department at the same
time. This caused several dismissals
aud forced resignation |, and one young
woman, whose mother had been forced
to leave, entered indignant protest with
Logan.
T She pleaded, threatened, and _ finally
said :
oWell, Mr. Chief Clerk, itTs a poor
rule that wonTt work both ways. Both
your father and yourself .eing here the
rule.is violated, and I think it a shame
that such favoritism should be display-
ei.
Logan drummed on his desk with
his pencil and wore a faraway look.
Finally ha said:
