Description
Bill of sale for five enslaved persons named Ailsey (15), Frank (10), Nelly (28), Isabella (3.5), and Handy (8). The purchaser of the enslaved was James Murphy, the grandfather of Charlotte Pearl Murphy Wright (1876-1965). Wright was married to Robert H. Wright (1870-1934) who was the first President of East Carolina University which was then called East Carolina Teachers Training School. The enslaver who sold the individuals to Murphy is identified as [Trick?] Murphy and the event was witnessed by P. Murphy.
