Description
CDR John W. Palm graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1941 and joined the USS Yorktown. Later WWII service included the USS Indiana commissioning and SW Pac (Communications), and XO on the USS Weeden (DE 797) in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific. Post-war he was involved in Intelligence with tours involving Russia, at the Pentagon, and with COMNAVFE (Commander Naval Forces, Far East). He also had tours as the CO on the USS Durik (DE 666), CO on USS Rushmore (LSD 14), and with Ops on the USS Toledo in the Korean War. Palm retired from the Navy in 1961 and spent the next 20 years as a Professor teaching Political Science/International Studies. - April 26, 2001
