Raw footage of Professor of History and University Historian Dr. John A. Tucker interviewing Dr. Joseph Steelman. Dr. Steelman speaks about his time as a professor at East Carolina, regional and national politics and politicians, and Leo Jenkins' political activity and efforts to gain university status for East Carolina. His recollections of Senator John F. Kennedy's campaign visit to East Carolina College include an estimate of about 25,000 attendees, reasons Kennedy's campaign was interested in visiting Greenville, correspondence with the Kennedy campaign, his thoughts on Kennedy's address, and the composition and attitude of the crowd. Kennedy's visit was the first time a presidential nominee had visited Greenville, NC. Interview date August 22, 2008.
