Description
Captain Frank G. Edwards (Ret.), United States Naval Academy, Class of 1941, comments on his childhood in an Army family, experiences at the Naval Academy, assignment to the USS Mahan, and absence of the Mahan from Pearl Harbor at the time of the Japanese attack. Other details of Capt. Edwards' military career include the shipboard experiences of officers and crew of the USS Foote, flight training, postwar aviation experiences with prop and jet airplanes, his deployment in the Korean War, and his role in testing naval aircraft. Details of Capt. Edwards' civilian career with Grumman Aerospace Corporation include his involvement in the development of in-flight refueling systems and other military aviation technologies, and development and testing of new airplanes including the F-14 Tomcat jet fighter.
