Manly and Lewin Manly that describes her experience hearing talented singers growing up in Wilmington, N.C., her time singing at Fisk University, and her time as an elementary school teacher. Some of the singers from the Wilmington area who Manly mentions are John Fleot, Billie Wiggins, Andrew W. LeBoo, Madan E. Azalia Hackley, and Katherine Yarboro.
