In the letter, Manly details the lives of her parents and grandfather, David Elias Sadgwar, the Sadgwar family's experience as enslaved persons, and marrying Alex Manly.

I used Carrie Sadgwar's letters in my 1898 drama No More Sorrow to Arise, produced on Thalian Hall Mainstage by 1898 Commemoration.
