Essay titled "Casual Thoughts" written by Thomas Sparrow in January 1841. In the essay Sparrow discusses political authority and the rights of the people. Note at the end of the essay indicates that this was the original copy and that it was "much altered & corrected and handed in to Prof Jas Alexander". Thomas Sparrow was attending Princeton University at this time. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly. more...
