Letter from John Stanly in Raleigh, N.C. to Abram M. Allen in Fayetteville, N.C. An 1819 letter from Raleigh comments on the legality of court proceedings initiated on behalf of a slave and advises as to the most prudent means of handling the case. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
