A Reply to C. M- State-
In reply to Mr. M. Bernard's
statements of the nib. in the
Morning Post, regard to the
little trouble between him and
myself must say, as many other
articles which be has written, is
far from true. As to the little
affray bet ween Mi. Bernard and
myself, at the depot in Greenville,
don't propose to go into the full
details of the exact proceedings of

harvest was under way
generally the south portion of
the State early the week, but
has ceased for the present. Much
wheat is ready to cut; some has
been beaten down by rain, the
prospect seems hardly as good as
was previously expected. la well
cultivated fields and com
have made some growth, while
very small at least show good color
but generally the condition of both
crops continues poor. Cotton has
not all en chopped, and many
fields are being abandoned or plow
ed up for corn or field peas. All
the tobacco has now turns
planted, and this crop seems to lie
doing well, though worms
are much trouble. The
yield of potatoes is quite
large. Gardens much
ed. Peaches and cherries will lie
full crops; apples very short
inferior. Minor crops, rice, pea
nuts and especially melons, are do-
well.
