STYLISH MILLINERY.
For more than a decade this store's Millinery has been the premier
event of the season. Each season they've grown nearer to perfection.
In the great numbers, the vanity, the exclusiveness, and artistic el-
of the Hats assembled for this fall's exhibit, all our previous
similar displays have been far out classed. Our Millinery Depart-
with its settings of new fall Millinery will present
a marvelously interesting and beautiful picture.
OUR OWN DESIGNERS
have had in view for the last several months the requirements of this
event, and their contributions are equally praise-worthy. The pres-
of this store as a style source will be immeasurably increased by
the many beautiful creations and in the present exhibit.
So elaborate presentation of fascinating modes has never before
been attempted.

The Family Reading
To find reading that satisfies
craving for the bright and
attractive, and is at the same
time perfectly suitable for
young people, is at
times difficult. The best
are admittedly published
for mature readers only. The
Youth's Companion alone is for
all the family. While the
tors keep in mind the eager de-
sire of the young for tales of ac-
enterprise and adventure,
these stories in The Companion
are so well written as to
men and women in all
stages of life's journey. And it
is true not only of the fiction in
The Companion, but of the en
tire contents. The articles, by
famous writers, convey
edge that is useful to the wisest
and most experienced as well as
to the immature. In short,
Companion solves the reading
problem for the entire family,
it is entertaining and it

No more horrible automobile
accident has bean d in
North Carolina than that which
occurred here late Friday after
Greenville was never
more shocked and saddened than
by this terrible disaster.
Mr. E. O. Flanagan had three

Jr., and S. C. for a
ride in his machine.
gone out the sand-clay road, and
this road affording an excellent
track tor speeding Mr
driving his machine at
high rote. When opposite the i
home of Mr. J. J. Jenkins on the
place some lumber wagon-
were just ahead, and when Mr.
Flanagan turned out to pass
these he lost control of the ma-
chine and it plunged against
tree. The terrific compact with
the tree turned the machine over
and it was a complete
being broken into many pieces.
A ridge in the side of the road
caused it, at the it
running, to strike the tree about
five feet above the ground.
Mr. Fleming, who occupied the
left rear sat, must have tried to
jump from car, as he was
hurled a great
or feet, and falling on his head
in the road his neck was broken,
death resulting almost instantly.
Mr. Flanagan was caught
under the machine with much
its immense weight on ins breast
and shoulder. In this perilous
position it is a wonder every par-
of life was not crushed out
of him. It was with difficulty
that he was released, and he was
unconscious when taken out but
soon regained consciousness.
He was suffering terribly when
to his home. Three ribs
were broken, shoulder badly
hurt and bruises more less about
his body.
Mr. Skinner received a
skull by striking his fore-
head in the fall, but was at first
able to sit up and talk about
the accident. He became
conscious before reaching the
home of his Col. Harry
Skinner, and soon after arrival
there was hurried to the Norfolk
Southern depot and started
to a hospital in Richmond, Dr.
L. C. Skinner and Mayor H. W.
Whedbee him.
After the sad
news come back that Mr.
SKinner died there.
His father was away from
home at the time of the accident,
and after much effort he was
located in Wilmington where the
sad news of his sons death was
communicated to him. The At-
