- Beaufort County firefighters battle a blaze at the Fountain Powerboats Plant Thursday afternoon, sending up smoke visible for more than 10 miles. A helicopter was used to drop water on the hot fire. The plant employs about 250 persons, some of whom stayed to help in clean-up operations Thursday night. The cause of the blaze, which caused heavy damage, had not been determined.
