Biographical / Historical Note
Captain Miller, a member of the US Naval Class of 1941, served in battleships and destroyers during World War II.
Description
In his initial interview Miller describes his background in Pennsylvania, his education and employment prior to entering the Naval Academy, his experiences at the Academy, and his service during World War II. Included in the wartime duty was service in the USS WASHINGTON operating in the Atlantic, assignment to the DD GHERARDI and its involvement in the Normandy Invasion.
In interview #2, Captain Miller discusses the invasion of Southern France, duty in the Pacific at Ulithi and Okanawa, and the commissioning of the USS MEREDITH. Post war commentary concerns service at the U.S. Naval Academy, assignments in the USS WILLIAM T. POWELL and the USS GREENWOOD and duty in the Mediterranean with the U.S. 6th Fleet.
