Abstract:
The American Energy and Security Act establishes nationwide mandates on renewable energy and energy efficiency, requires reductions in greenhouse gases, and is the most costly federal energy bill in decades. North Carolina electric cooperatives met with Congress to discuss major energy and environmental legislation proposals. The implications for North Carolina consumers is discussed in this article.

Jack Macon remembers summers in Randolph County when teams threshed more than four-hundred bushels of wheat per day. During the early twentieth century, threshing was a community event as threshing machines and their crews traveled from farm to farm. Macon describes his family farm operations, equipment, and the process of threshing.

The country roads of North Carolina have been the training grounds of the North Carolina Randonneurs every month since 1983. Randonneurs are bicycle riders who like long rides with time limits and no outside support. This article explains how and where randonneurs are training in North Carolina to qualify for the Grand Randonee in France.
