The eastern region of North Carolina increasingly relies upon East Carolina University economically. In Sylva, North Carolina, Jackson Paper is a paper mill that produces paper for the construction of corrugated containers. The plant is one of three paper mills in the United States that does not discharge waste into surface or city water supplies. Rather, all of the water the plant uses is recycled, as is the material they use to make paper.
