Abstract:
John Sitgraves, a native of England, attended Eton College, and then emigrated to North Carolina. He became a lawyer, served as a lieutenant in the militia in the Revolution served as military aide to Gen. Richard Caswell. He represented North Carolina in the Continental Congress in 1784-85, and was speaker of the NC House of Representatives from 1787 to 1788. Sitgraves was appointed US District Judge for NC in 1789, serving until his death in 1802.
