Recidivism, or return to crime, after release from prison in North Carolina has been analyzed to identify some prisoner characteristics associated with recidivism. Characteristics that strongly influence criminal recidivism are race, age, alcoholism/drug abuse, and previous criminal record.
This bulletin concerns three closely related statutory provisions that target repeat serious offenders: the habitual felon laws, the violent habitual felon laws, and the habitual breaking and entering laws.
