Abstract:

Thermal Valley Hang Gliding is located between Morganton and Lenoir. Near Wilkesboro, owners, Dima and Merin Sazinas of the Sky Retreat's Blue Ridge Paragliding Center are both professional ballroom dancers and paragliders. In the Peidmont, Statesville and Iredell County are home to balloon manufactuerer Firefly Balloons. Offering hangliding on the coast, Kitty Hawk Kites Flight School has multiple locations.

Abstract:

Statesville has developed a reputation as the hot-air balloon capitol of the East. The Carolina BalloonFest has been going on in Iredell County for the past 45 years and is the second largest of its kind in the country. Over the past several years, the festival has gnerated $787,000 for area non-profits.
