Talmadge Powell is one of North Carolina's most prolific writers. He has written fifteen books and over 500 stories and novelettes. He has written for television and some of his books have been translated in all the languages of Western Europe.

Abstract:
Hundreds of thousands of people have seen Bill McElreath, the dancing phenomenon of Swannanoa, do the buck dance. McElreath is a regular at the Asheville City-County Plaza's Saturday night Shindig-on-the-Green as a performer and instructor. Additionally, he has been a featured attraction at the annual Folk Festival at Asheville's City Auditorium. He has also won buck and clog dancing championships at five state fairs and danced at the Smithsonian Institution's folk program. He also plays the guitar and as a musician has recorded for Victor Records.

A curiously formed bluff that gave the town of Blowing Rock its name is also the basis of an old Indian legend that supposedly explains the rock's custom of returning light articles, such as paper and handkerchiefs, which have been thrown from it.

Talmage Powell, aged 44, who lives in Asheville, is perhaps North Carolina's most prolific writer. He has published over 500 stories and novelettes in national magazines, written for television, and is under contract to Universal Studios in Hollywood. He has written a number of books, published here and in almost twenty other counties, and been anthologized in a number of collections.
