The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority has not yet completed its road map for the next fifteen years of development, but should their master plan, known as Vision 2040, come to fruition, environmentalists fear its potential outcomes. Residents in opposition to the plan are petitioning to save forested lands, which might be threatened by a proposed runway near Umstead State Park.

Life Lines is an audio journal for death row inmates created by Duke University Divinity School graduates Chris Agoranos and Lars Akerson. The idea is to give inmates an opportunity to restore a sense of humanity and give those outside the prison a chance to look within, and perhaps, contribute to the national debate over the death penalty.

Hurricane Matthew flooded a Duke Energy power plant in Goldsboro, unleashing toxic coal ash into the Neuse River. The level of arsenic in the groundwater monitoring well on this site is the highest of any of their coal ash sites around the state. Duke officials are being pressured to excavate the ash.
