INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORS TO THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC REVIEW

The ELECTRONIC MUSIC REVIEW will be a quarterly publication provid-
ing a source of information and a means of discourse on electronic
music among composers, engineers, teachers, performers, and listeners.
It is interested in publishing such materials as:

- descriptions of the circuitry, construction, and applica-
tions of studio equipment
- information on working methods and techniques
~ descriptions of equipment and facilities at various studios
- reports of various events, activities, and trends
- articles on aesthetic, theoretic, and analytic aspects of
electronic music
- bibliographies and discographies.

The first issue will appear in January 1967.

The REVIEW fully recognizes that not all of the procedures out-
lined in Parts One and Two are applicable to all types of articles
(or authors). The REVIEW will carefully consider any contributions
which, with good reason, do not conform to the following suggestions.

Part One: PREPARING YOUR ARTICLE PROPOSAL
1. Specify the title of the article.
2. Outline the contents of the article you wish to write. Be

sure that this outline reveals the nature of the subject matter
and your emphases and approach.

3. Specify the number and types of illustrations.

4. Specify the approximate number of words in the article. (The
REVIEW sets no length limits. Book-length manuscripts will be
considered for publication in serial form or as special issues.

5. Specify the date by which you can and will, if requested,
deliver the complete manuscript.

ey

You may submit any number of article proposals in this manner.
Mail them to the REVIEW at the above address.

Part Two: PROCESSING YOUR ARTICLE PROPOSAL

The REVIEW will inform you of its decision on each article pro-
posal. A suitable proposal, as returned to you with the editor's
suggestions and comments, serves as the blue-print for the complete
article,

Part Three: PREPARING YOUR COMPLETE MANUSCRIPT

1. Type (double-spaced) your manuscript, using one side of each
sheet. The left margin should be 11/2 in. (4 cm.) wide.

2. Number, in the left margin, every line on every page.

3. In footnote references to periodicals, include: author's
name, title of article, name of publication, volume number, month,
year, and page numbers. In footnote references to books, include:
author's name, title of book, place and year of publication, and
page numbers. In footnote references to patents, include: name
of patent holder, number of patent, country, date of filing, and
date of issue.

4. Label all diagrams, tables, etc.; lightly label with pencil
the backs of all photographs (only black and white glossy prints
accepted). There is no set limit on necessary visual aids.

5. Furnish documentary evidence of all verifiable quotations,
names, events, dates, and places in footnotes or, if unimportant
to the text, on a separate page titled Author's Verifications.
Be sure to include the page and line numbers of each word or
passage being verified.

6. Retain a duplicate of each of the materials you prepare.

If your manuscript fails to conform to any of the above specifi-
cations, it will not be automatically rejected. However, pro~
cessing will take longer, will be more difficult, and may result
in more work for you and, if your manuscript is accepted, delayed
publication.

Part Four: INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAILING YOUR COMPLETE MANUSCRIPT

1. Do not staple, clip, or fold the manuscript.

in Fae

2. Be sure that the manuscript and any supplementary materials
are complete.

3. Enclose a stamped (first class), self-addressed envelope.
(Foreign contributors should enclose a sufficient number of
international reply coupons.) Otherwise, your manuscript cannot
be returned.

4, Mail (first class) to the REVIEW (address on Page Gne) -

Part Five: PROCESSING YOUR ARTICLE

Although such decisions are in the minority, your article may be
rejected or accepted outright. An article is more often accepted,
conditional upon further collaboration. Obviously, writing an
article from an acceptable proposal will lessen any possibility
of the need for extensive collaboration.

The REVIEW regrets that its limited budget precludes any pos~-
sibility of awarding honorariums to authors of accepted articles.
