Description
Membership list of the New Bern Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1. Also known as the "Button Company," it was organized on January 1, 1865 by Union soldiers who remained in New Bern, North Carolina after occupying the city during the Civil War. The membership covers the years 1869-1925. The list includes the names of the fire chiefs and foremen of the company. A brief history of the organization is included on the list as well. - 1925-07-08
