- From author: Celebrating my diversity means practicing humility. On a day-to-day level, recognizing or being reminded of the ways in which I’m unique supports the ongoing realization that everyone has a unique human experience. Once you accept this, celebrating one’s own uniqueness can become an act of celebrating everyone’s uniqueness, and any ideas of superiority or innate hierarchies crumble. With this in mind, I strive to treat every interaction with another human being as an opportunity to learn something that may make my own experience of reality a little bit more beautiful and stimulating than I’d thought it could be. Ryan McLaughlin is a MD Candidate, Brody School of Medicine Class of 2018.
