Personal journal/ship’s log kept by Benjamin Thompson serving as master of the brig Progressive Age between 29 October 1860 and 1 September 1861, master of the brig Sportsman between 18 October 1861 and 7 May 1864, master of the brig T.A. Darrell between 24 November 1864 and 6 December 1864, master of the Harrisburg between 21 January 1865 and 4 April 1865, and as master of the ship Columbia between 19 April 1865 to 24 April 1865. His logs from the Columbia continue on to the next journal. Entries were made daily detailing weather conditions, navigational calculations, and general shipboard life. During his service he made multiple global journeys, making calls at Singapore, Macau, Buenos Ares, New Orleans, New York, and Boston. This volume has been flipped over and content has been added from the back of the item.
