- Advertisement for Ayer's Cathartic Pills depicting seven naked boys packing and wrapping wooden boxes of Ayer's Pills. The caption is: "Ayer's Cathartic Pills. A safe pleasant and reliable Family Medicine." Prepared by Dr. J. C. Ayer and Co., Lowell, Massachusetts. The reverse of the card states that Ayer's Pills "are compounded from the extracted and concentrated virtues of purely vegetable substances, and combine the choicest cathartic principles in medicine." Ayer's Pills are adapted for curing ailments of the stomach, liver, and bowels. They cure jaundice, indigestion, headache, dizziness, and biliousness. The pills are put up in wooden boxes, and in damp climates glass vials are used instead. creator: Dr. J. C. Ayer and Co., Lowell, Mass.
