Description
Robert Brent Drane's Tarborough [Tarboro, North Carolina] Male Academy literary club and constitution notebook. The Academy of Tarborough opened in 1815 to serve the male students of Edgecombe and surrounding counties. In 1823, the first females were admitted and in 1840, the school was split into separate male and female academies. In November of 1885, the Tarborough Male Academy was destroyed by fire. Robert Brent Drane was born in Wilmington in 1851 and died in Tarboro in 1939.
