Description
Black and white photograph of the "23" Club—a group of members of the U.S. Naval Academy class of 1941, including John M. Burnham, whose eyes did not pass official eye exams. (They are all wearing glasses.) Names of group members are listed on the back. Burnham was a 1941 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. In 1947, he joined the Electric Boat Division of the General Dynamics Corporation; and in 1952, became design manager there. He was responsible for the design of the nuclear-powered submarines USS Nautilus (SSN-571), USS Seawolf (SSN-575) and USS Skate (SSN-578).
