Description
Letter of appointment for Thomas Burrowes Jr. to the rank of ensign in the U.S. Navy. Rear Admiral Thomas Burrowes was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 17, 1904. In 1925, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. Upon his graduation, he was commissioned as an ensign and took his first duty aboard the battleship, USS WEST VIRGINIA. Burrowes spent thirty-five years on active duty in the United States Navy, serving in various capacities. He achieved the rank of rear admiral in 1953 and continued his naval career until his retirement in 1960.
