The man leaning against the tree looks very much like an older version of the man photographed in a portrait of "Mr. Fletcher" taken by William James Topley in Ottawa in June 1877.    This image was evidently taken at the same time as another in the Fletcher family fonds; the other image was identified as having been taken by Topley.    It is possible that Topley printed the two images from negatives supplied by the Fletcher family as Topley also ran a developing and printing business
