Description
Letter from Owen Newton to his mother, Ellen Newton, written from Corinth, Mississippi approximately four days prior to the Siege of Corinth. Newton describes fighting in the area around Corinth and Monterey, his poor health, the condition of his brother Isaac, outbreaks of typhoid fever, diarrhea, and mumps among the troops, the lack of provisions, instructions for paying taxes and tending the farm back home, and difficulties faced on the battlefield.
