- This inverted microscope was developed for use by chemists observing reactions and crystallizations. Leonard Hayflick used one to observe his tissue cultures. It then became popular with many scientists who used the newly developed tissue culture techniques. It was modified to become the inverted tissue culture microscope and copied by other manufacturers. The serial number is 715088.
