Advertisement for Dr. Isaac Thompson's Celebrated Eye Water depicting a girl dressed in a yellow coat trimmed with purple buttons, cuff, and collar. She is also wearing a purple skirt, sash, and shoes. She is holding a bottle of eye water and treating a black and gray stripped cat. In tiny print on the bottom lower right corner is: Mayer, Merkel & Ottmann, Lith., 23 & 25 Warren St., N.Y. The reverse of the card has the heading: "Dr. Isaac Thompson's Celebrated Eye Water for all complaints of the eyes." Its merits are unrivaled and has been in use since 1795. The price is 25 cents per bottle. John L. Thompson, Prop'r, Troy, N.Y.

It wasn’t until the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 that the active ingredients of the Eye Water were revealed: opium, alcohol and zinc sulphate.
