Description
Letter from Elbert Carpenter, a soldier serving in Company D, 61st Regiment North Carolina Troops, who was stationed at Tarboro, Edgecombe County, N.C., to his father, Solomon Carpenter of Chatham County, N.C. The letter records the recent deaths of his two brothers, Wyatt and James. Elbert was killed at Kinston, N.C., on 14 December, less than three weeks later.
