How much would this picture be worth

Steven Aycock May 16 2018

Lynn Rountree is nearly correct. William Aycock grew up in Selma, but was a native of Lucama. The family lived on what is now Blalock road, just west of the intersection of South Main Street.

Lynn Roundtree Mar 06 2013

That's William Brantley Aycock, a native of Selma, N. C. and Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1957-1964) to the immediate left of President Kennedy.

No question about it: that's UNC Chapel Hill's University Day. Kennedy gave a speech and received an honorary degree. Terry Sanford is on stage too (without cap, looking away). He received an honorary degree as well. UNC has a video of the entire event. Also on stage are all of the top level administrators of the University of North Carolina, including the presidents of North Carolina State College (as then known) and Woman's College, as well as deans, past presidents, etc. Leo Jenkins was not included in this event, although he had hosted a Kennedy campaign rally at ECC the year before, Sept. 17, 1960.
