Description: Five color photographs of John W. Outerbridge in his workshop. Outterbridge is a Los Angeles-based painter, sculptor, and installation artist who was born in Greenville, North Carolina. The photographs depict Outterbridge at work on dolls of his early experimental type. Descriptions on the rear of the photographs document how parts of the dolls were made including the shoes and hair. Identity and culture are major themes in Outterbridge's work, and he was heavily influenced by events in Watts in the 1960s, the black district of Los Angeles, and the Watts Towers constructed by artist Simon Rodia.
