Description: Photo of John M. Burnham and his colleagues at the Bureau of Ships. Date approximated. Burnham was a 1941 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. In 1947, he joined the Electric Boat Division of the General Dynamics Corporation; and in 1952, became design manager there. He was responsible for the design of the nuclear-powered submarines USS Nautilus (SSN-571), USS Seawolf (SSN-575) and USS Skate (SSN-578).
