Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow and Annie Blackwell Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to their father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that Aunt Maggie is still staying with them but her husband keeps asking her to return home. George says that his Uncle Sam brought him a full bred male black pointer from Chicago and he hopes to train him for hunting. George also discusses a railroad accident that happened about three miles north of them in which a train ran off the tracks. He also writes about gathering walnuts with Aunt Maggie, his mother buying two dozen chickens, and his mother making him a pair of pants. The letter continues with a note from Annie to her father about reviewing a letter that she is forwarding to him. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
