Small Drum Microscope
Title: Small Drum Microscope
Identifier: LL02.48.03.01   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/22001)
Description: This is an early achromatic microscope. Achromatic lenses were invented by Dollond in the 18th century, but could not be reliably manufactured in focal lengths less than 1 inch until the developments by Amici in Italy and Chevallier in France in the 1820's. The drum configuration was more stable than many other early designs. This instrument has the complete set of original parts which includes: 2 objectives, 3 oculars including one with a micrometer, the bullseye condenser lens, mahogany box, key and some of the original instructions.
