Papers (1805-1968; bulk 1860-1916) consisting of correspondence of a political nature, family-related correspondence, speeches, financial papers, farm records, farm account books, clippings, photographs, a diary and printed material related to Elias Carr and other members of the Carr and related families. Elias Carr (1839-1900) of Edgecombe County, a member of the Democratic Party, was the governor of North Carolina (1893-1897) and president of the N.C. State Farmers' Alliance and Industrial Union (1889-1892).
This collection contains 539 letters (1943-1945) written by Jack Ladd Carr (1924-2010) to his family in Pennsylvania while he was stationed in Fort Jackson (South Carolina) for basic training, in Camp San Luis Obispo and Camp Pendleton in California, and the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Carr joined the U.S. Army in March 1943 and returned to the United States in December of 1945. He was involved in attacks on Anguar Island and took part in Operation Forager.
Collection (1802-2008) of two East Carolina University history professors, includes their academic works, historical reviews, correspondence with various organizations of educational, historical, political, and philanthropic persuasions. Also includes family files on Steelman and Edmisten families, plus large collection of familial correspondence.
This collection includes letters mailed to Thomas Milton Carr, Jr. from May through December 1864 while he was serving in Company B of 2nd North Carolina Junior Reserves. Correspondents were mainly family members living in Martindale in Mecklenburg County, N.C., and nearby counties. Topics are news related to the Civil War, events of daily life and the effect of the war on them, and information related to friends and family members serving in the Confederate Army.

Collection consists of a DVD containing 581 images of photographs and documents related to the life of William Haydock Fillmore (1893-1966) who married into the Carr family of Edgecombe County, North Carolina. He founded and operated the Fillmore Flying Service in Oakland, California, in the late 1920s through the 1930s, was a barnstormer, a commanding officer in the Army Air Corps during World Wars I and II and the Korean War, and retired to a farm named Chosumneda in Edgecombe County. Stuart Carr, a Greenville, N.C., native, describes his experiences working at the Greenville Fertilizer Company at the beginning of the Depression; and then his years with the E. B. Ficklen Tobacco Company in Greenville (1938-1950) with responsibility for the Carolina Leaf Tobacco Company, which sold American tobacco to Chinese manufacturers. He describes the tobacco business in China, the Japanese presence before and during WWII in China, and the loss of his company's assets with the Communist takeover in China. He goes on to discuss the more contemporary involvement of Thailand in the tobacco market and China's contemporary relationship with American tobacco companies.

Considerable material pertains to State Senator Yancey T. Ormond of Greene County.

Included are account books, legal records, land transactions, estate records, correspondence, clippings, and autograph books (1855, 1865) belonging to family members who attended Miss Willard's Female Seminary in Troy, N.Y., and Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City, Maryland. Also included are identified photographs (cartes de visite, tintypes, cased pictures, albums) of the Moore, Gilliam, and Skinner, families, religious books such as Roman Catholic Missals, Episcopal Books of Common Prayer and Bibles, UNC-Chapel Hill diplomas (1824), and items related to the 1878 Exposition in Paris, France.
