Faculty Records: Peter Landers Makuck Papers

This collection contains literary and personal papers of Dr. Peter L. Makuck, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the English Department, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, where he taught from 1978 to 2006. Included are correspondence, lecture and teaching notes, and drafts of poems and short stories. A large portion of this collection pertains to the publication Tar River Poetry from its founding in 1978 by Dr. Makuck, as a publication of the English Department at ECU, until 2015. Included are correspondence and all but one of the issues.

Amelia Earhart Photograph Collection

This collection consists 16 unique images, with the remaining items consisting of multiple copies, of file photos of Amelia Earhart, dating from 1918 through 1937. Images include celebrations of Amelia Earhart's first Trans Atlantic flights in 1928, her appearances for the First Powder Puff Air Derby, her attempts to establish various records, and her appearance before the United States Senate. The earliest image depicts Earhart's graduation portrait from 1918. The last photo was taken in Oakland, California, just before her departure to Hawaii in 1937. Two images include Amy Otis Earhart, mother of Amelia Earhart. Most of the photographs in this collection are identified as coming from the files of Underwood & Underwood, a longtime supplier of news photographs in New York, New York.

This collection contains portions of two ledger books (1910-1930s) and one complete ledger book (1950s-1960s) documenting the church membership rolls of and claims payments made to the Conference by members of the Invitation AME Zion Church in Greene County, North Carolina. Also included are some birth, death, and marriage records, especially in the two older ledgers.

Little Mothers League for Better Babies group portrait (ca. 1920), Kinston High School, Kinston, North Carolina; and articles (2003, 2006) in The Vineyard, A Publication of Glad Tidings for St. James Parish, Wilmington, NC written by Susan Block related to Adam Empie, an Episcopal minister there in the early 1800s, and a house in Wilmington built in 1799 and razed in 1955.
